Aboriginal Education

Respecting, acknowledging and providing opportunities for the ongoing cultural development of our ATSI (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) students is of the highest priority. Each student has a Deadly Cultural Learning Plan (DCLP), which is completed by teachers in conjunction with families and provides the basis for ongoing support for each student.

Our Indigenous Education Worker (IEW) - supported by our Indigenous Support Teacher - works collaboratively with students, staff and families to ensure that the school is targeting learning that is both cultural and academic to promote growth for each student.

Each week our ATSI students have a Gumbaynggirr language lesson to strengthen cultural connections and foster the importance of language. Our Indigenous families are encouraged and welcomed to attend regular meetings to provide support, feedback and direction for the school.

Our IEW and ATSI students work together each year to celebrate NAIDOC Week with the whole school community to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
